این گروه پرجمعیت ماهیان در زیر لایه های یخ پارک سنت پترزبورگ روسیه مدت های زیادی از زمستان طولانی در این منطقه سردسیر را گذارانده اند اما وقتی حفره ای در این یخ ها بوجود آید جذب اکسیژن مهمترین نیاز ضروری آنها بنظر می رسد.
